2016 – Our Amazing Year In Photographs
So as 2016 nears its end its time for us to regroup and reflect on what turned out to be a real whirlwind of a year…. but WHAT A YEAR!!!!!
2016 was filled with meeting & photographing amazing people in amazing locations, we photographed some truly wonderful weddings and made friends that will last a lifetime, from Castles in Scotland to Villas in Italy we witnessed the most special moments.
This was also the year that saw one of the biggest changes in our business, our fab new studio 🙂 after 17 years we decided (with some anticipation) to move to a new bigger, better studio and after 6 months…. well we should have done it years ago.
We always enjoy putting the end of year reviews together, its very theraputic but does cause a few arguments though as we both have our favourites and this is probably why this review is our biggest EVER!!! theres just so many wonderful memories but we had to keep it a short as possible…
Now we are not saying that these are the BEST photos we have taken this year but every one of these images brings back the most wonderful images from a fantastic year photographing friends.
So with next year looking to be one of our busiest EVER as we are shooting weddings all over the UK & Abroad, we have several photography workshops to host and the ULTIMATE honour of Judging national Photography awards this year, 2017 is really shaping up to be the best yet.
To all our wonderful clients this year, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for your trust, hospitality but most of all your friendship.
To our 2017 clients…. this is going to be the best year of your life, trust us its going to be the most amazing year….. we can’t wait!!!
David & Jane are very much in demand shooting weddings not only in the North West but all UK Locations and destination weddings in Europe & Worldwide. With an eye for the perfect image and a reputation for excellent service its not surprising they are one of the most sought after wedding photographers in the country. If you’re planning your wedding & need an experienced wedding photographer then get in touch, we would love to be part of your amazing wedding day. D&Jxx
Best Artistic Documentary Wedding Photography 2014 by David & Jane Stanbury
So its that special time of the year when we all start to reflect on the year that was, and we are no different. 2014 was a blur, it really doesn’t seem that long since we did the 2013 review, even though we still have a few weddings left to shoot its only when we were deciding/arguing over this years wedding images that we finally managed to relive just what an amazing year 2014 was & is. For us the highlight was our Wedding Photography Workshop in Italy, we just can’t stop looking at our photo memories from that amazing few days, it was such an honour to be part of, and a dream came true when we finally managed to visit the stunning Cecconi Castle & the Graphistudio Factory. We also found a new passion this year… working with other photographers to help them improve their photography & business with seminars at the SWPP in London, the Photography Show at the NEC and recently again with Hasselblad & Broncolor at Shoot London and have made so many new friends at these amazing events. But it would not be possible for us to pass on our experiences as wedding photographers if it wasn’t for you the wonderful Bride & Grooms who have trusted us with such a high honour of capturing the stories of love, family & friendship at your wedding, from the bottom of our hearts Thank You!! Anyway enough chat here is our 2014 review, get yourself a brew there’s quite a few but we could have put 3 times as many in, thank you again and here is a very small selection of 2014…… WOW we still get goosebumps looking through these images, so many fond memories from an amazing year. On a personal note we would love to Thank Graphistudio, Hasselblad & Broncolor for their continued support throughout 2014 (too many friends to personally thank but you all know who you are) to our fellow photography friends who attended the workshops & seminars, to our amazing family, our son Cavan & Daughters Shanna & Kayla but our biggest thanks are to all our Bride & Grooms, Portrait & Fashion clients for making 2014 the best year yet…how good, I will let Gary show you how good 🙂 So 2015 what will that hold?? Keep it quiet but it may involve taking amazing photos, travelling, workshops, Holland, Italy…. Las Vegas….. So to you all have a very Happy Christmas & a wonderful 2015. D&J xx
Hasselblad & Broncolor Present ShootLDN
I have had many special moments in my photography life with awards, stunning weddings & amazing couples but to be asked by the most prestigious professional camera company in the world to be part of their 2 day flagship show has to be up there at the top. Now for those who are not photography minded here is a quick explanation of what ShootLDN is all about…… Hasselblad make the ultimate in Professional Cameras & Broncolor make the best flash lights (thats the easy bit) ShootLDN (really its Shoot London)is a concept that brings the top of the Professional Photography Trade with high end professional Photographers under one roof offering them the chance to get hands on equipment, meet other suppliers like Epson Printers, Adobe Photo Software,Eizo Monitors,Aston Martin Racing for example attend workshops & seminars by leading figures in the industry in the guise of Fashion Magazines, Model Agencies, Agents & also demonstrations of photography techniques and much much more. The event was held for the second year at the uber cool Old Trueman Brewery building in Shoreditch London, the Old Trueman Brewery has an amazing feel and draws in fashionable creative people from all parts of the city, a perfect venue for ShootLDN. The show had photography Studios set up for Fashion shoots, commercial & product shoots with models (supplied by Lenis Models) available to shoot with the Hasselblad Cameras (to a chocolate lover its the same as being put in a room filled to the brim with chocolate and being told… help yourself, YES that good!!!) I was asked to hold 2 Wedding Masterclasses, the first being all about our business, our photography style & how we design & shoot our wedding albums the second all about how we create our signature images & how to position/pose the couple for the best results.I was humbled that both Masterclasses were full as ShootLDN even though aimed at ALL Professional Photographers its mainly the Fashion & Commercial world that attends en mass so to see so many at my Masterclasses made me proud to be representing Wedding Photography. At the end of day one as the sun set over the City (London never sleeps) we had an amazing evening in London ready for day 2. This was the view from our room (sorry for the touristy holiday style snap but I love the London skyline) Day 2- all about posing the Bride & Groom. A huge thanks to the stunning Grace from Leni’s models for being the perfect bride….. And to Jon from Karl Taylor Photography for being a great sport and stepping is as the Groom, much to the entertainment of Karl and the rest of his team. Talking of Karl Taylor Photography…. Karl is in my eyes the best photography educator there is bar none, if your serious about taking your photography to the highest level then check out his website www.karltaylorphotography.comAnd not forgetting Chris Burfoot from Broncolor (who support us with our location & studio flash equipment) being a great sport as my plus sized model, much to the entertainment of the audience. Cheers Chris 🙂 And as always finishing by showing our range of wedding albums and other presentation products from the brilliant Graphistudio (Graphistudio supply ALL our Wedding Albums because they are the BEST!!!!!) A huge thanks has to go to Mark Witney, UK Marketing Manager for Hasselblad who organised the whole show so high5 to him for another amazing ShootLDN, to All my Hasselblad & Broncolor friends (for their friendship & support with cameras & lights) to Graphistudio for as always backing me up and to all my Photo trade friends who also attended and made this the best ShootLDN yet!!!! but most of all to the people who took the time to attend my Masterclasses and for the wonderful comments & friendship that they showed to me, I really was humbled. If you want to know more about ShootLDN here is the link, check it out…….. heres to ShootLDN 2015 D&J xx
Wedding Photography Masterclass in Italy
I have to say that this was a dream come true, I have had the honour of working with Hasselblad Cameras, Graphistudio & Broncolor for a few years now and this was one of those moments that come once a lifetime. We were asked to host a 5 day Wedding Photography Workshop as part of the release of Hasselblads new Flagship Camera the H5D 50cmos and to help promote Graphistudio Albums and as Graphistudio have just renovated 2 stunning locations to host photography workshops then this was a perfect match & our Italian Job became a reality. We arrived at Marco Polo airport in Venice to 35+ degree heat and after checking in to our fabulous Hotel we had a recce around Maniago, our base for the trip. The first day was held at the stunning Palazo D’Attimis in the centre of Maniago, The delegates were introduced to the cameras, lights, albums infact everything a wedding photographer needs to run a successful business then onto the main business… shooting gorgeous images in a stunning location. Our models Stephanie & Simone were first up and with the old look & feel of the Palazzo D’Atimis we showed a more ‘Fine Art’ approach to how to shoot a wedding couple with a more formal look to capture a timeless feel to the image. For you photographers all my Images are shot on the Hasselblad H5D 50 cmos this image was daylight but with a broncolor move pack & soft box giving a little fill flash from above. I love the triangle patten of this image & boy what a look from our couple. Processed to give a timeless film like feel to the image. The lighting was just amazing and I was able to get really creative with the shafts of light flooding into the room. The delegates get their shots, ably assisted by David Neild from Hasselblad #LB7 holding the lights Another room in the stunning Pallazo D’Atimis this time to include the amazing ceiling (shot with a 24mm lens & flash balanced to keep the highlights in the window behind) Mark Witney from Hasselblad shows the delegates the array of functions on the new Hasselblad H5d 50 cmos Our two gorgeous Bride models Lorella & Stephanie take a break Back to shooting, this time Lorella on the staircase, just with available light & a little fill flash. Outside in the Palace Gardens to get more movement into the shots, Lorella giving the delegates a spin One of our speciality shots on weddings, shot to show the power of the Broncolor lights… turning Italian sun to darkness Day 3 we was held at the ‘jaw dropingly’ beautiful Castello Ceconi, words cannot describe how beautiful this place is… it is immaculate and a true testament to the passion for perfection from Tullio Tramotina, the CEO at Graphistudio and whose passion this castle was and is. Time for a quick team shot in front of the castle. I wish you could feel just how hot it was this day, 34+ degrees not a cloud in the sky as we grabbed the must have shot, Stephanie & Simone with the most stunning of backdrops Just how beautiful is the Castello Ceconi… one of my favourite shots of the whole trip If the architecture of the Castle exterior wasn’t good enough the inside is Ultra Modern, just unbelievable!!! I shot a bit more fashion style this time with Lorella. One of my fave shots of Lorella, the ceiling is a mood ceiling and you can choose your colour to match your mood…. how cool is that You have to be careful were you put your camera… Lorella having a go behind the lens, Yes she was photographing me… NO you can’t see the photos 😉 This amazing day ended with a fabulous Gala meal hosted by Tullio, his daughters Lisa & Alice & our new friends from Graphistudio consisting of local hams, cheeses and the wonderful local wine, an evening both Jane & I will remember for ever. Day 4 was a visit to the Graphistudio factory to see how our (and yours) albums are created. This turned out to be a real eye opener as the albums went from state of the art machinery to next being hand assembled & hand glued to make our stunning albums, I knew that our albums were hand crafted but i really didn’t think so much time, effort and passion was put into the process… we now view our albums in a totally different way, I knew they were the best (thats why we only use Graphistudio albums) but now I know why. Unfortunately due to the nature of the process we were unable to take photographs inside the factory but did get another group shot outside… then a lift back with my good friend Francesco in the Hummer… Brilliant!! I have so many people to thank for creating & making this a truly amazing few days not only for Jane & myself but the delegates also. Thanks to the Hasselblad/Broncolor guys Mark for all his planning, organising & patience,David & my new #LB Colin. Graphistudio Uk Jeremy & Martin for the UK planning, Graphistudio Italy, Dario, Lisa, Alice, Chiara and Tullio and not forgetting the fixer, Francesco if we needed it he got it, what a guy!!!! a huge thanks to our models Stephanie, Lorella & my double Simone 🙂 to my co host Milosz & our awesome delegates who without this would never have happened, Thank you, and last but not least to Jane who took the behind the scenes shots, helped the models, ran around looking after the delegates and putting up with my rubbish Italian. This was a truly fabulous intensive few days that have left memories with me that will last forever 🙂 Now the planning starts for next years trip… you interested????

Fashion Photography with Graphistudio & Hasselblad
I love photographing amazing outfits & people in stunning locations be that a wedding or as in this case a fashion shoot, and what could be more glamorous than shooting a designer dress with a wonderful model in the magnificent Liverpool city centre. As regular followers of our blog will know I recently had the honour or speaking at the Photography Show at the NEC in Birmingham and one of our sponsors Graphistudio of Italy had a dress made consisting of all the sample leather covers that they offered on their amazing wedding albums and as the show came to an end I was approached to photograph the dress. As if this wasn’t enough our other sponsors Hasselblad Cameras invited me to shoot the dress with their new camera the fantastic H5D 50 cmos boasting a 50 megapixel back and 14 stops of Dynamic range (thats photographer talk for its a fab quality camera)and here are the results of the evenings fun. We started at one of my fave locations St Georges Hall in the city centre with our brilliant model Bethany… Then as the light faded we finished on the Waterfront A huge thanks to Jeremy Price of Graphistudio, Designer Aleah Leigh Fashion Designs, Mark Witney of Hasselblad, Broncolour for our lighting and of course our model Bethany Cammack. The whole shoot was filmed for a photography TV channel so will share that with you when it comes out, a great evenings fun as our busiest wedding season ever is about to start. ttfn David x
The Photography Show was held at the NEC in Birmingham at the beginning of March and is the replacement for what was Europe’s Largest Photography Trade show Focus On Imaging and the trade was wondering would the new show be as big, as popular as the old Focus Show… well it was & BETTER. We had the honour & pleasure of presenting a few workshops & seminars at the show for 2 of our sponsors Hasselblad Cameras & Graphistudio Italian Albums and the response has been fantastic. Our first workshop was for our (& your) wedding album supplier Graphistudio of Italy. Its always a pleasure to work with the fantastic Graphistudio gang they all fly in for the show from Arba near Venice and are great company they never stop smiling, especially for Steak & Ale Pie & Sticky Toffee Pudding (they LOVE English food). Next we presented our workshop for the legendary Hasselblad Cameras, those photographers who follow my blog will know Hasselblad as the Rolls Royce of cameras (they even supplied the cameras for the first moon landing) and what a laugh we had. For the workshop I had a professional Bridal model but no Male model so David from Hasselblad stood in & did a fine job as did a rather shy Mark (well he stood in as a bride, sorry Mark) Its always great to meet up with our Photography friends aswell at these shows including our good friends Paul & Sarah Wilkinson,Andrew Younger,Sean Conboy & Karl Taylor and his team over from the channel islands. Thanks to Graphistudio, Hasselbad and their great people & Hannah my model but especially Marvin & Martin (my Graphistudio models) & David,Mark & Maxi (my Hasselblad models) for being great sports. We also met up with some amazing designers, MUA’s and fantastic creative people and we are looking forward to some really exciting collaborations in the future, and last but by no means least a HUGE thanks to all who came to the workshops & seminars we hope you found them informative, inspiring but most of all FUN.
